Abstract: Tunneling technique is normally a primary option that often cannot be avoided in building a Mass Rapid Transport System in a heavily populated metropolitan city. In this case, to avoid any unwanted effect to the surrounding structures and public utilities, the ground movement and the soil structure interaction analysis become important factors to consider. This paper elaborates the author experiences in analyzing such a case both by employing available empirical formulas and by using a sophisticated finite element analysis.

Engineer dan Permasalahannya

ABSTRACT: Since end of 1997 when Indonesia falls into a prolong economic crisis, the writer has witnessed a number of engineers switching his career. Despite the increasing cost of living, the income earned from the field of engineering even decreasing. In this paper, through some literature study, through his own and his colleagues’ experiences, the writer tries to elaborate and analise what could be the source of the problems that make the qualified engineer leave his years of Engineering career. Finally, based on the study, tries to propose a solution.

Analisa Beban Gempa pada Dinding Besmen dengan Plaxis 2D

ABSTRAK: Makalah ini menyajikan pemodelan beban gempa dengan menggunakan program elemen hingga Plaxis 2D. Analisa dilakukan dengan pemodelan pseudo-static dan pemodelan analisa dinamik dengan masukan beban dinamis berupa time histories. Hasil analisa ini dibandingkan dengan metoda konvensional yang sering dipakai dalam memperkirakan gaya gempa yang bekerja pada dinding basement, yaitu: metoda Seed-Whitman, metoda Mononobe-Okabe dan metoda Wood yang dihitung secara manual dan dengan bantuan program GEO5. Hasil analisa elemen hingga menunjukkan bahwa beban gempa yang bekerja pada dinding basement lebih tinggi dari metoda Mononobe-Okabe dan Seed-Whitman, namun lebih rendah dari metoda Wood.
